What is Pilates?
Pilates is an innovative and safe exercise technique that requires mind/body coordination while using a mat or a variety of equipment. It evolved from the Joseph Pilates method and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. Pilates principles include breathing, concentration, control, centering, precision, whole body movement, balanced muscle development, rhythm and flow and relaxation.
I’ve never done Pilates. What do I do?
We always recommend starting out in a private session so you have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Pilates. Also, you will feel more comfortable when you move into group classes. You are not required to begin with a private session and are more than welcome to try a Mat or Beginner Reformer class. All of our teachers are extensively trained in working with all levels of experience.
What is the difference between a Reformer and a Mat Class?
Mat classes use the weight of your own body against gravity to perform specific exercises while a Reformer is a spring-loaded machine with 5 springs of varying resistance allowing you to perform different movements at different levels of tension.
I don’t see any beginner Mat classes listed. Are there any?
Levels are not designated in Mat classes because it is easy to modify exercises to meet the experience level of each client. On the contrary, Reformer classes have more challenging movements that cannot be modified for all levels.
How do I sign up?
It’s really easy! Simply click on the Schedule a Class link in the navigation bar. First, you will need to create a username and password, then pick the classes you would like to attend. Finally, pay online and you’re all set! Call the front desk at 615.321.5200 to schedule private, duet, or trio sessions.
I purchased a deal for your studio through a deal service (Groupon, ActiveBuys, Living Social, etc.). What do I do?
For more detailed questions, please see the section of our blog entitled All Your Daily Deal Questions Answered. Before coming into the studio, please create an account in our online scheduler. Since our online scheduler is not set up to accept daily deals as a payment method, we ask that you simply bring your voucher to the first class you attend. We will then put the remaining classes in your account so you can sign up online for whenever you like.
To sign up for your first class, you are welcome to email or call, and we can reserve your spot. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early prior to your scheduled class.
What do I wear?
Wear anything you can move comfortably in! Nothing too loose or too tight. Anything you might wear to the gym or a yoga class will be perfect. You will have the option of being barefoot or wearing socks. No shoes required.
I’m pregnant. Is it safe for me to do Pilates?
Absolutely! All of our teachers are trained extensively to work safely and effectively with pregnant and post-pregnant clients. Please notify your instructor of your condition prior to class so that appropriate modifications can be made.
